Don’t hesitate or panic if they go ahead and cancel you.
Just tell them since it will take about 2 weeks to get DSL set up,
ask them to set the cancellation date 2 weeks from now.
Then you can call back anytime during this two weeks and try your luck again with a diffe rep,
or withdraw the cancellation at any time

I have been bugging Comcast for a while now and threatened to cancel a few times, but until today could not get a lower rate. I was paying $48 a month ( I have their basic tv cable service for $15) for the past year.

Anyways, I just called in today, and told him Yahoo SBC is offering me $14.95 a month for 12 months. Right away, the representative offered me $29.99 for 12 months (with no contract, cancel anytime), and said that’s the lowest rate he can give out.

Of course I took it. Let’s face it, DSL will never be as good as cable. For somebody like me who downloads a lot of multimedia stuff, comcast is heaven. Faster, more stable, free repair and service (Everytime something goes wrong with DSL, you ‘ll have to pay about $50 to get it fixed, even if it’s SBC’s line issue)

Make a simple phone call and give me some green if it works out.

Repost police, I do know there’s an ancient comcast thread. But I think this one should have its own.

Also for those of you who don’t know this, you can take you modem, walk in your local center, and ask for their latest cable modem, no appointment or anything needed. If you ‘ve been with them for a year or more, your modem’s most likely outdated.

I think this is hot considering until last week I didn’t know anyone but ADT could monitor my home alarm. I have been paying $30/month for monitoring to ADT (which has been driving me nuts, we hardly use the alarm). In the VoiceIP threads I saw mention on Nextalarm.com. Looking at it, the cost is only $8.95/month (if you pre-pay for the year) and they give you two months free when you join. Signed up on Friday, got it activated today.

Very easy, the tech walked me through the steps to change the dial-out over the phone and then tested the system for me. They say it will take an 1/2hr or maybe more for the setup. It took me only about 10mins. The Tech seemed extremely competent. All alarm info (activations, alarms, etc) are available from your web browser.

Your yearly payment is refundable if you cancel (it is pro-rated but you can get a refund)

Told them I was going to switch to a competitor. Many diffent reasons work as you will see if you read the posts below. “Too expensive”.. “Can’t afford it”..etc.etc. YMMV depnding on how serious you sound.

The guy asked me if price was the issue and I said YES. He offered me 6.95/Month for life. I naturally took it!

They dont officially call it a “retention” program …but that is basiclly what it is.
