‘Bot’s Best Friend

Most people think Roombas like me are satisfied cleaning floors. But robots get lonely, too. It was time for me to get a pet.

Now, I’m not saying I don’t love my work. Sweeping up dirt, dust, pet hair, crumbs and other debris from floors? Using my Dirt Detect and Spot Clean modes to deal with especially grungy areas? Cleaning edges and corners with my improved side brush? These are things I was literally born to do. I put in a hard day roaming the floor and I sleep well at night, as long as somebody remembers to plug me in to recharge.

But there’s more to life, you know? Companionship. Affection. Basements, decks, workshops, patios, and garages. So I went down to the shelter and picked out a Dirt Dog.

It’s cute. It’s smart. It loves to play games like “fetch the sawdust, woodchips, leaves, nuts, and bolts.” And it’s pretty easy to take care of: all you do is empty the high-capacity sweeper bin and feed it some AC current. Like any dog, you wouldn’t want it running around shedding on your carpet. Although, if it did, I guess I’d know how to handle it.
