Just returned from WalMart in Chino, CA (91709) and saw Duracell Coppertop AAA2 (2 pieces of AAA in a pack) for 94c only. I don’t remember how much it used to cost, but I saw AAA4 (4 pieces AAA) was around $3 something (which I believe is the ’standard’ price there), so I think 94c for AAA2 is pretty cheap.

Best Buy at Orange Park FL was having an extra %50 off all clearance and open box appliances. They had a few vacuum cleaners and some really nice Kitchen Aid utensils for %50 off the lowest clearance price. Obviously a huge YMMV but I managed to score a Dyson DC14 yellow model for $121.43 out the door. They also had a few of the DC14 purple ones and those were clearanced at $399 but now that I think about it those might have been included in the sale although they weren’t on the back wall with the rest of the stuff. So maybe someone can score one of those for $200. And they were brand new in the box.

Unfortunately I doubt it if many people will be able to score on this deal but it can’t hurt if you are heading there anyways. The signs were unofficial so it really might be just this store. You could call ahead just to ask the appliance people if they have an extra %50 off clearance and open box items.

I don’t know which numbers are what but there is a 7105848 which is I think the ticket number.

They are expensive but honestly the Best Quality I have found. Most protein powders clump and taste fairly bad just mixed with water for me, but Biotest is great. They never have coupons and Rarely (Seems like maybe about 3 times a year may have one item for 2 for 1 or similiar, but I’ve never seen deal on everything like this in 2 years)

The Big Lots store in North Park at 30th and University is closing. Everything is 20% and I think some furnishing are 50% off. The place was a madhouse today. Bargain-hunters were out and about. A cashier I spoke with said the store would close on April 15. Sad news during hard economic times, fer sure. As far as I know, the rest of the stores in area are safe from closing. I did a quick web search to that extent.

Have a stack of LPs? Have a modern home theater receiver that lacks a phono input? Want to digitize your LPs on the cheap? Are you a cheapskate? This deal is for you!

The Audio Technica AT-PL50 has been a long running popular basic and simple fully automatic turntable for playing those LPs and 45s at a dirt cheap price. This basic turntable is a decent deal at an occasional $65 (new) at Amazoon *BUT* from time to time, J&R Music World gets these in as refurbs and sells them at $39.99 + shipping ($8 for me).

I’ve had my hands on 3 of these refurbs, and you can’t tell them from new. A phono preamp stage is built-in and switchable, and an adapter cable is included for connecting this to your computer sound card. Most people do NOT need a USB turntable when this will do just fine.

Here is the “kicker” - this turntable is the same product as the $100 Sony PS-LX250H, $100 + Pioneer PL990 (which adds a pitch control) and the $150ish Denon DP-29F. All have the same motor driving the same aluminum platter and have the same cartridge mounted in the same arm. For less than Denon soaks you for a stylus, J&R Sells this entire turntable! The only deal that comes close is the Sony version from their refurb outlet store for $49 when it’s in stock. I just bought one of the Sony reburp ones this past week for $49, but checked J&R first and these were not in stock yet.

Pros - these sound amazingly good, are quiet running on older worn LPs (plus side of a conical stylus), upgraded styli can be had through LP Gear - and genuine AT replacement is under $20 if you use your Fatwallet smarts!

Cons - you are locked into the cartridge. No 78 speed (there is software to timeshift), but I don’t know of a 78 stylus for this cartridge, It’s a toss away unit. There is a known CQ issue surrounding skipping, which is NOT normal for these units - but is a common complaint.

Sure you’ll get better sound out of that old Pioneer PL-12 from 1973, but for those who don’t have access to a good oldie, don’t know how to service it, and don’t want to spend $300 and up for a ProJect or the like.
